I drove to the lake with one of our sons.
The snow flurry prompted our journey.
We went prepared for a wintery hike.
We reached the top of the hill and lingered.
Quietly we absorbed the peace of the moment,
the gift of time together, and the beautiful view.
To the left was a frozen lake dusted with snow.
To the right was a huge reservoir of water, unfrozen,
where the wind caused the surface to ripple and dance.
The two were separated by an embankment
and defined by their depth and undercurrents.
We marveled at the distorted picture.
I pondered a question.
Does the depth of our hearts help protect us?
