Whimsicality

A puff of wind swept icy snowflakes off the roof
and sent them dancing in the sunlight.
The dazzling display was unexpected and captivating.

On this side of the window pane,
I was thrilled by the glistening,
whirling ice crystals caught up in the breeze.

Frigid times require moments of whimsy.

Intentionally focusing on the little packages of delight,
that the LORD blesses us with,
enables us to share joy with those around us.

Floral Arrangement

I’ve seen daffodils surrounded by a blanket of snow.
It is a picture I return to with a smile.

Prompted by today’s forecast, of gray being displaced by white,
I decided to recreate the picturesque disconnect.

I placed a tulip in a vase by my window.
It brightened the wintery landscape behind it.

Spring lingers in the distance.

I can enjoy it from afar as I watch the deer frolic in the snow.

Prayer Changes Things

People put a lot of time and effort into trying
to make a difference in the world.
Everyone desires to have their life mean something.

Sadly, most people never understand that what we say
and how we think alters history.

Reckless words can act like a machine gun.
Bad attitudes can spread like mustard gas.

Love spreads peace, joy, encouragement, and hope.
Praying, in Jesus’ name, releases power that is immeasurable.

Today, I choose to have a positive impact.

Resultant

I asked Holy Spirit about changes I should make to function better.
I had become stagnant and way too predictable.
I wanted an honest assessment of my routines and dreams.
I received a list of nine areas to transform.
I expected a new mandate, but I was given gentle reminders.
Ideas that I had evaluated as being trivial where highlighted.

My heart’s cry was also answered with a list of blessings.

Each step of faith will be rewarded with an awesome harvest.

Been There

I spied on a foolish fawn who had wandered away from the herd.
Taking her own sweet time, she nibbled on the vegetation.
She was old enough to know better.  She obviously did not care.

The icy snow gave her difficulties as she journeyed back to the trail.
She slipped and slid.  Thankfully, she did not fall.

Eventually, she rejoined the three deer that had patiently waited for her.

Earlier, six deer had run along the pathway through the woods.
They seemed to be enjoying a romp through the countryside.

Personally, I have played all three parts.
I have been the selfish, clueless one.
I have had to wait on others when it was their turn to be foolish.
And I have also been blessed with smart groups to run with.

Splendorous

I was blessed with witnessing a glorious sunrise.
I love it when God reminds me of His splendor and extravagance.

Crimson ribbons stretched behind the distant hills.
Splashes of orange sprang into the sky and danced with the red.
The brightening, baby blue heavens seemed to rejoice.

A little bit of sun kissed the landscape and began to spread.
Shades of gray gave way to shifting shadows and glistening snow.

I’m glad that I repositioned my desk to take advantage of the daily show.

Bird’s-eye View

Six young whitetails followed a trail through the snow.
They stayed in single file as they meandered through the woods.
With their heads down against the wind, they took careful steps.
The leader stopped four or five times for the last two to catch up.
They took turns leaping over the distant stream, up the embankment,
and out of my view.

I was saddened for the show to end and glanced longingly back.

I was delighted to see another doe step out of the tree cover.
She had seven behind her!
I had the awesome pleasure of watching
this more seasoned group pursue the same course.
Once again, the last two struggled to keep up the pace.

I thank God for the beauty of His creation
and the pleasure of enjoying it with Him.
