Resolve to Evolve

Starting with a clean slate is daunting.  Oh well, I have to adapt.

I’ve never been too keen on the trial & error method of discovery.
I prefer tweaking well thought out plans of attack.
But plans evolve when faced with a new lifestyle, location, and vocation.
Even basic routines need to be reevaluated and retooled.

So I sit here sipping Lady Grey tea and praying for wisdom.
I really want to shorten my learning curve.

Belted Kingfisher

A Belted Kingfisher is taking a short respite, just outside my window.
For some reason, the words “cool dude” just popped into my head.
He/she has the indistinct markings of a juvenile.
So, I may be being visited by a dude or dudette.
Either way, I’m awestruck by its beautiful design.
I’m selfishly praying for successful hunting from their perch.
I would love to have frequent visits from this neighbor.

I’m thankful for this pleasurable opportunity to watch the youngster.

Liquid Ballet

Raindrops pounded the surface of the pond,
ripples collided and reflections changed patterns,
and I enjoyed the liquid ballet.
The wind intensified
and curtains of rain swept across the stage.
Then the deluge was quickly replaced by a gentle shower.

When a steady drizzle settled in, the Wrens came out to play.

I thank God for another glorious day.
I’m continuously thankful for the fascination of His creation.

Tactical Action

I’ve read about the influence of the flap of a butterfly wing.
But, I know of another gentle catalyst that effects life.

My secret weapon is used frequently and strategically.
Prayer multiplies the amount of power released.
Holy Spirit directs and sanctions the tactical actions.

There is an enormous amount of power released by a smile.
Genuine joy, that causes eyes to twinkle, is contagious.

I desire to have a huge impact on the world while I’m here.
I want to spread targeted and collateral damage
against apathy, grumpiness, and despair.

Captivating

During scattered, unscheduled moments throughout the day
I’m giving myself permission to disengage from the tasks at hand.
I’m purposefully absorbing the beauty of my new surroundings.
I have quickly learned to be still and watch for movement.
Shifting shadows, a turn of a head, or a moving branch
can reveal life hidden in plain sight.
I just have to train my mind to see what casual glances miss.

The uniqueness and intricacy of God’s creation enlivens me.
The lavishness of His blessings causes my heart to sing.

Childlike Wonder

A small opening through the trees exposed a secret.

There were strange, tall lumps scattered in the marsh.
They were way too large to be cypress knees.
So, I had to investigate.  I snuck up on the scene.
Armed with my camera, I peered into the marsh.
(Yes, Mom, I stayed on the sidewalk.)
There were three different types of birds.
Some of them turned and looked at me.

Quiet, childlike wonder transformed my day.
The variety of God’s creation is amazing.
Being blessed with glimpses of splendor is a gift.
