Domino Effect

We love to play Dominoes.
We keep a set in our trunk (with paper and pen – to keep score).

At a coffee house, a fast food place, a diner, or a causal restaurant we bring them in to play while waiting for our food or lingering after a meal.  We usually receive a lot of positive comments from those who notice our quirky habit.  Little children seem to be the most surprised to see adults playing a game.  Some smiles contain a hint of longing to be able to play, too.

I’m not talking about the game where you set them up in a row to knock them all down by tipping the first one over.  Metaphorically speaking, we can do that every day by not scheduling healthy breaks into our plans.

We play a friendly game.

If you see a couple playing Dominoes and enjoying their time together,
stop by and say hello.  We would love to chat.

Frolic

Today, I dance for an audience of one.  I can already hear His applause.

He has taught me how to move freely and follow the beat of His heart.

With joy and wild abandon, I choose to frolic.

I thank God for singing a new song every morning that we can celebrate,
together.

Morning Respite

The trees are still, silent, and waiting for the next breeze.
They are not swaying, dancing, or clapping their leaves.

Perhaps they are participating in a poetic pause.

Moments of rest emphasize displays of movement.

I wait expectantly.
The orchestra is stirring.

Reposition

The sunlight was hurting my eyes and causing me to squint.
This time of year, the path of the sun sends bright, morning light
directly onto the spot where I want to keep my chair.

One of us had to move over.
Being a stubborn person, this irritated me.

I repositioned my nest.
Moving the furniture was easier than adjusting my attitude,
I’m not a morning person.

Silly inconveniences can only remain a problem if I refuse to be flexible
and decide not to change.

Now, I enjoy the view
from a slightly different perspective.

Partake

There was a fruit and vegetable stand that I drove past for many summers.  It was in the shade of a beautiful, large tree in front of an old farmhouse nestled between rolling fields.  With a forlorn glance, I would think of the hot day, the long trip home, and my “to do” list.

Eventually, I remembered to plan ahead and brought a cooler with me.  I selected wonderful blessings and commented on the quality and quantity of their harvest.  I discovered that everything had been purchased at my hometown farmers market that morning.  I had easy access all along.

God was providing.  I failed to notice, partake, and enjoy.

"LORD, show me what I'm missing in this town."

Awestruck

My husband and I took a drive down Memory Lane.
Peaceful vistas filled us with joy.
Traveling to snapshots of cherished times filled us with thankfulness.

This morning, I sit and savor our yesterdays and trust God with the rest.
I read Psalm 65 and listen to joyous songs.
