Take a Hike

People on a casual stroll are just passing through
and chatter too much to notice much of their surroundings.
Conversation is the goal.

Hard core hikers seek the physical challenge.
They quickly press through the miles, work their muscles,
hydrate, consume nutrition, and add another experience to the list.

I’ve hiked both types of trails and enjoyed them immensely.

This weekend I just meandered along.
I thank God for time to relax and reflect.
I applaud the brilliant display of His creation.

I am rejuvenated.

Morning Hush

The doe is back.
She blends in perfectly.
Her head turning and her ears twitching reveals her position.
She stands and begins to nibble her breakfast.
Her movements are elegant.
A change in the morning shadows exposes her companion.
It quiets my soul to watch them.
I wonder if their first few snippets of dew covered vegetation
is as soothing as the first few sips of my morning routine.

Peaceful mornings are a treasure
to be savored and intentionally sought after.

Move Forward

I directed my eyes to the hills and soaked in the peace.
Gazing on the splendor of God’s majesty released tension.
Prayers leapt upward and shattered obstacles.
Distractions melted away.
A faithful focus was restored.
Visibility returned.

It is time to take the next step.

Gentle Whisper

Thank you, Father, for the gentle nudging of your Spirit.
You are training me to keep the communication channels open.
You give me safe passage through the minefield of expectations.
Watchful eyes and a focused mind enable me to stay on course.
Insight gathered shows me how to adapt.
Priceless treasures are exposed simply by listening.

I enjoy our fellowship.

You delight my soul and expand my world.

Engage

The masses rushed onward
purposefully disengaged.
Walls, built for protection,
held prison bars
creating cubicles of solitude.
However, prayer penetrates.
Isolation is an illusion.
Interject life.
Dare to engage.

Gleaned

The beautiful result of one season ending is that another comes to be
embraced, experienced, and treasured.

Our crops have been gathered and stored.
Lessons learned and seeds for thought will not stay dormant.
They will be planted at the proper time and we will reap
an even greater harvest in the future.

God put into motion our cycle of growth.
He included times for the soil to rest, be replenished,
and prepared for life to flourish.
