Cedar Waxwings

If trees could scream, then I would be hearing one now.

There is a flock of Cedar Waxwings shaking some branches.
The group keeps descending on the same treetop.
Like the results of a puff of wind on a white Dandelion,
they blow away in an instant.
They leave the tree quivering in their wake.
Then, once I assume they are really gone,
they swoop back to cluster in the sunshine.

Maybe they have an overactive startle reflex.
And, maybe, they stubbornly want to perch there.

Whatever the reason, I’m enjoying the show.
I thank God for the silly, little pleasures that life brings.
